why did Megan Fox leave the Transformers franchise? - I hate this news

Reports that Megan Fox left Transformers 3, and not the other way around, are looking more plausible now. The Wrap has a source “close to the actress” who claims that Fox walked away from the film because Michael Bay was “verbally abusive.” Fox “had enough and decided to get out early.” This squares with previous statements that Fox has made about Bay, calling him a “tyrant” and a difficult director to work with.

The Wrap’s Jeff Sneider speculates that “it’s highly plausible that Paramount studio chariman Brad Grey’s well-known relationship with [Deadline] editor-in-chief Nikki Finke played a part in how the story was initially spun.” Deadline was the first to break the news this past Wednesday that Fox was out of the sequel. For its part, Paramount is still claiming agency in the decision. Said the studio: “Paramount had the unilateral right to exercise an option for Megan Fox to appear in ‘Transformers 3.’ Paramount at its sole election allowed the option to lapse.”

why did Megan Fox leave the Transformers franchise?

So what was it? Did she just leave for no apparent reason?

Following her dumping from the film, Fox claimed that it was her idea to leave, with her rep telling People Magazine, “”It was her decision not to return. She wishes the franchise the best.”

Was playing up the sexy too much for her female empowerment?

(Shia) LaBeouf, never one shy to share his opinions, recently gave some insight to some of the disagreements that Fox and Bay had on set.

“Megan developed this Spice Girl strength, this woman-empowerment [stuff] that made her feel awkward about her involvement with Michael, who some people think is a very lascivious filmmaker, the way he films women,” LaBeouf told the Los Angeles Times. “Mike films women in a way that appeals to a 16-year-old sexuality. It’s summer. It’s Michael’s style. And I think [Fox] never got comfortable with it.”

Yeah, her career got a lot less lascivious after Transformers 2.

Okay, so maybe she really did get fired?

Michael Bay broke his silence for the first time about why Fox was replaced after two films as Shia LaBeouf’s lady co-star, saying that it was her unfortunate dictatorial comparison that did her in.

“You know the Hitler thing. Steven (Spielberg) said, fire her right now,” Bay told GQ Magazine.

If you don’t remember the story, Megan compared director Michael Bay to Napoleon and to Adolf Hitler a couple years ago because Bay’s “a nightmare to work for” and “he has you do some really insane things that insurance would never let you do.”

I wonder if it’s the insurance thing. They were worried she’d shoot her mouth off some more and drive their insurance rates up. That could be it.

Not that it matters, of course. I wasn’t going to see the movie anyway, Megan or no. At least, not until I could see it for free. I’ll probably watch it if I can see it for free.
