Pharaoh solar ship found


Take King Khufu to 'eternity'

CAIRO: A team of Japanese archaeologists discover Egypt and the Pharaoh Khufu Solar ship recently located near the great pyramids of Giza. Conservation project done is to take 41 blocks with an average weight of 16 tons each and move the ship buried 4.500 years ago in a burrow. The project is the focus of research for Antiquities Ministry of Home Affairs, the delegation from Waseda University, Japan and the Japan Institute for Solar Ship. They are embarking on studies since 2007.
Minister of State for Egyptian Antiquities, Zahi Hawass was present at the transfer ceremony and told reporters, conservation work 'solar oldest ship in the world' will take about four years before it can be displayed to visitors.



Both vessels made from Lebanese cedar wood and acacia wood Egypt.Hawass said that the new ship is better than expected.

The Pharaoh Khufu Solar ship detected in 1987 in a large hole, to the west of the first solar boat. Both the ship is located in the south of the Pyramid of Khufu at Giza.

"At first I was worried to see the timber ship. However, I am confident that we can see another ship of Pharaoh in four years, when it is restored, "he said. - Agencies
After the repairs are finished, the second ship will be placed near the fence pyramid, while the first ship will be transferred in the Great Egyptian Museum which is currently under construction.
The first solar ship was discovered in 1954 and unveiled in 1982, near the pyramids after the repairs, which took 13 years.
The transfer of blocks that led to the discovery of Pharaoh Khufu ship is made in a large barn that was built to protect the ship. The first stone blocks lifted Wednesday as a test before the place was replaced with a wooden block.
King Khufu of the fourth dynasty Pharaoh, known in government building and Pyramid of Khufu. Ancient Egyptians believed that the ship was built to bring him to eternal life.
